Here's how a typical class works:

• Students participate in class any time, from any place where they have access to a computer and the internet.
  
• The majority of coursework is conducted through posting messages online, commonly referred to as “discussion boards.”
• Some University of Cincinnati Online courses may also include real-time chat sessions, however, most of the coursework is conducted asynchronously, which means it is not done in real-time.
• Once the course begins, students usually log on at least every other day to see if any new messages have been sent to their mailbox or posted to their virtual classroom.
• Students can access coursework 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
• Coursework usually includes reading lectures and supplemental material plus required texts, completing homework assignments, taking 
exams, submitting assignments and interacting with the instructor and other students online.

Blackboard™ provides a positive experience

University of Cincinnati Online uses the Blackboard™ system to provide students with an "online courseroom" that promotes interaction between faulty and students with these elements:
Course Material: contains the course syllabus, workshop-by-workshop explanations of all assignments and activities.
Discussion Forums: helps students and faculty participate in asynchronous discussions of key course topics.
Project Teams: provides a user-friendly combination of asynchronous discussion forums, synchronous live chat interface, whiteboard collaborative software, and file exchange server to promote team interaction among students.
Assignment Manager: instructor’s online inbox and outbox, where students submit their completed assignments and receive them back with feedback and grading. Each student has access only to his or her records for privacy.
Gradebook: shows each student the grades he or she has received on all assignments, so students know where they stand in the course at all times. Students can only view their own grades.
Student Support: links to Technical Support, and other services.
